Waiting for a ride

Well as you all know I am so anxious to get my beautiful girl home to me in Nisswa, Minnesota.  Yes it sure will be a change of climate for her, but she will love it up here.  For those of you that are new to this blog...  Well let me fill you in on who Bella is and who I am..  Bella is a beautiful, 2 year old pit bull mix.  She was abused and bred.  At some point Bellas mouth was wired or taped shut (we are assuming this was done so she could be mated) another dog raised to fight tore off her upper lip, the owners did nothing to help this poor girl. At some point she was saved and brought to the Animal shelter in Walton County Florida.  On September 15th, 2011 I saw a post about this precious girl on facebook.  It is amazing how social networks are able to connect people all over the world.  The moment I saw her picture...  I really do not know how to describe it, I knew she needed me and that I needed her.  I mentioned that if there was anyway she could get to Minnesota that I sure would love to have her..  Well  that is all I needed to say, people from all over were wanting to help in anyway they could.

Once I realized this was really going to happen, that I could be so blessed to be able to truly love this incredible survivor I decided to give her a name.  I instantly thought of Bella which means beautiful in Latin.  I have yet to meet her, but to me she is so beautiful.

A little about me.  My name is Dawn, I am no hero I don't live in a mansion or drive a fancy car.  I am blessed to live in the three bedroom one bathroom home that my grandfather built.    I was raised in the Cities but always loved being in the country.  I am an EMT and was a volunteer firefighter for 10 years.. I do what I do and am who I am because of my intense love for all living creatures.  I am a mother, a wife, a sister and a daughter.  I am a Christian, yes I love God and have Jesus in my heart.  When people ask me why I am always so happy I tell them "I would rather be a blessing than a downer", all mankind should live by those few simple words.  I have zero tolerance for animal abusers and people that find fighting animals to be a sport or any type of enjoyment.  Dog fighters have taken a beautiful breed and made people afraid of them.  I am not God and I have no right to judge anyone, but I have a feeling God has a special place in hell for people that find pleasure in hurting animals.

This is my Bella

I would like to say thank you to all the volunteers at the Walton County animal shelter, Luvabulls rescue, Theresa Willis and Renee Morel.  You all dedicated your time and money to saving Bella and worked overtime to get her to me.  You are all angels.  I don't know who yet will be transporting her to Minnesota but who ever you are...  Thank you so much for bringing my girl home to me.

Last but not least.  This blog about Bella and her new life is dedicated to all the pit bulls that didn't make it out, to the ones in shelters needing loving homes and to the ones that are in need of being found and saved.

  1. Dawn, love that you have started your blog. so happy that Bella is going to have such an awesome mom. and you such an amazing dog. she touched my heart the very second i saw her picture. I would have been inconsolable had she not found the perfect home. I am in NYC which is not on the way, but if needed i would be honored to drive part of the way. its a fairly useless offer but wth, gotta make it. i am bookmarking this page so i can keep with Bella as she learns what its like to be loved. GOD BLESS YOU AND BEAUTIFUL BEAUTIFUL BELLA.

  2. Thank you so much Anna. I am so blessed to be the one that is going to show this precious girl how wonderful life really is and also excited to share every last moment of her new life with all of you. :) Thank you for offering to help transport her, yes New York is not on the way to MN but.. If you were to call the shelter and talk to Nikki she might know of ways that you can help get her to me.

  4. Anna, you weren't able to help drive Bella to Dawn, but I have a cat whose elderly owner is being evicted from his home in NYC and if you would like to volunteer to drive the first leg of the transport to get the kitty to her new family in 2 weeks (she's going to a relative) this would make the full circle! you can email me at cherryharleytransports@fastmail.fm if you'd like to help.
